All Natural Bedding Solutions
Horse HairOur beds use only the best all natural materials in their mattresses. Horse hair is one the most important ingredients in our recipe for a perfect night of sleep. Few materials can match horsehair when it comes to making a bed. Horsehair comes with its own, extremely effective, built-in ventilation system. Moisture passes through the hollow strands so quickly that if you wet horsehair with water and give it a shake, it dries straight away. So horses have their own air conditioning system that keeps them dry in the heat of summer. This quick-drying property is perfect for a mattress because body temperatures often transform into moisture in the form of perspiration.
CottonYou have probably noticed how much less sweaty you feel on a warm summer day when you wear a shirt or blouse made of cotton rather than one made from synthetic materials. This is due to cotton’s ability to ventilate and wick away perspiration and high humidity. Since your perspiration during the night is 98 per cent water, it evaporates very easily if you sleep on a bed that breathes, with bed linen that does the same. In the right bed you won’t feel sweaty. You will stay dry and comfortable all night at the temperature that is right for your body. That’s why you’ll sleep much better. All Hastens beds are upholstered in the finest quality cotton. In addition a layer of cotton wadding is placed directly under the fabric, making it especially soft to lie on.
ViscoseOne of the most durable and soft natural materials available. Vi Spring uses this fabric on all of their beds. The fine tickings they are able to create using this fabric refined from lant fiber allows Vi Spring beds to be both soft and long lasting.
WoolPure new wool is used as stuffing in our luxury mattresses. Wool is an important component in the membrane that regulates the temperature of the bed and ensures outstanding comfort. Since wool has the amazing ability to warm and to cool, it works as the bed’s natural climate control unit. You stay dry and sleep at just the right temperature.
Nordic PineThe bed frame gives these handmade luxury beds remarkable strength and stability. The frames are built from solid pine from the north of Sweden, which is grown slowly for maximum strength. All of the wooden slats in a the bed frame rest on the strong outer beams or are situated in grooves cut into the beams. The slats are also nailed into place giving the bed frame even more strength and stability. This means two things: you’ll hardly notice if your partner moves in bed, and the bed will be extremely quiet.
SilkA prized natural filament fibre produced by the silkworm; one of the oldest textile fibres in the world. For centuries silk has had a reputation as a luxurious and sensuous fabric associated with wealth and success.
FlaxFlax is one of our oldest cultivated crops, popular through the ages thanks to its combination of strength, elasticity and ability to absorb moisture. Hastens uses flax underneath and between the spring systems, and in some cases above the springs. The flax padding is extremely durable and flexible, and it also minimizes and diverts static electricity.
DownNothing compares to falling asleep with pure goose down pillows and comforters. Down as a filling material stays dry and gives comforting warmth all year around. Down is nature’s own stuffing, tried and tested over millions of years. It insulates and holds warmth from your body, while allowing moisture to evaporate. Hastens and The Pillow Bar both use the highest quality down available.
CashmereCashmere is harvested from the goats during their annual molting season through the shedding or the shearing of their down. In the frigid high desert climates where most of the goats are raised, the dense inner coat guards against harsh winter weather, but once seasons change, goats begin to lose the protective layer of down. The finest cashmere comes from the underbelly and throat of the goats, but a lesser grade is also taken from the goats' legs and backs. Longer fibers from the belly and throat area make the wool especially soft. Cashmere comes naturally in white, gray and brown, but the wool is easily dyed. Cashmere was once only available to royalty because the rarity of the wool increased its value making it unaffordable to most people. Napoleon is said to have popularized the use of cashmere as shawls or wraps when he gave his second wife, Empress Eugenie, seventeen of them. Vi Spring uses Cashmere as a addition to the comfort layer in their Luxurious Beds. It is just one of the luxurious natural materials that make sleeping on a Vi Spring a life changing expierence.
AlpacaAlmost indestructible, fine woven alpaca garments in remarkably good condition have recently been discovered in Peruvian ruins dating back 2500 years. The absence of lanolin and other oils in the fleece and its extraordinary fineness of handle mean that alpaca fiber is both hypoallergenic and luxuriously soft on your skin.
MohairMohair is a silky textile produced from the hair of the angora goat. It is most often spun into a thread that can be woven, knitted, or crocheted depending upon the application. Mohair is durable, warm, insulating, and light. It also has moisture wicking properties that carry moisture away from the skin or surface of the a mattress. The hair of the angora goat has been used to produce textiles for centuries. Mohair Helps the Vi Spring beds maintain your body tempurature and the humidity with in the bed.
